This past holiday weekend the Garden City Xtreme traveled to Windsor, Connecticut to participate in the Paul Cody Soccer Tournament. About 20 other Centennial teams also participated in this tournament, making it even better because the players had so many of their friends there. The weather could not have been better and the New England Fall surroundings were spectacular.
The Xtreme competed against five teams from Connecticut. The Xtreme started the tournament by playing the local Windsor team which they beat 5-0. After that the Xtreme were matched up against four extremely competitive soccer teams. The Saturday afternoon match against the Suffield Wildcats was the most intense, physical and exciting as any the team has played. Non-stop end to end action had the team constantly under challenge. After 50 minutes, it rightfully ended 0-0. Sunday's opponents were the Hebron Hotshots and Manchester Silk City Strikers. Again on Sunday, two awesome matches. The Wildcats broke through first but the Xtreme didn't give up for a second and tied the match in the second half. Final score 1-1. In the second match, the Xtreme dominated the play, but couldn't put one in and tied again, 0-0. The final match on Monday again tested the Xtreme perseverance. Fourteen minutes into the match, the South Windsor Strikers scored a goal. Within five minutes, the Xtreme tied the score. The second half had a rapid pace, all the pasta the Xtreme consumed on Sunday night came in handy as they used every bit of energy they had to put the Striker's defense under pressure throughout the half. With six minutes remaining, the Xtreme scored the game winner.
