U-11 Girls Lions Take First In Windsor

The Lions with their Windsor Cup Trophies
The U-11 girls Lions started out their league season with a split in there first two games, beating Long beach 2 -1 and losing a tough match to Wantagh 2-0. The Lions while losing one player and adding four have worked very hard to become a true cohesive unit and continue to develop as a team.

The Lions third match of the season was against a Plainedge club who the Lions had tied in there spring season. The girls after two weeks of determined practice really came together and jelled as a team. The Lions beat Plainedge 6-1 on a total team effort both offensively and defensively. The defense was led by the impressive goal tending of Hanna Fitzpatrick and Grace Parks and the aggressive play of sweeper Sarah Rubino, Erin Pfail, Maddie McGuire, Emily Cafaro and Meaghan Kiely. When not in the goal Hanna and Grace also play important field roles as well. Offensively Daniella Joyce, Jacqueline Marino, Katie O'Neill, Rebecca Reifler, Ally Sweeney, Kelly Tierney and Gina Timpano led a continuous onslaught that proved to be over whelming for the Plainedge club.

This past weekend the girl's played in the Windsor CT Tournament which plays an 11 verses 11 format of which the Lions were used to a 9 verses 9 alignment. It did not take the Lions long to adapt to there slightly different positions and format as the girls played to a 4 win and one tie record and allowed only two goals the entire tournament while coming away with the first place trophy in there division. The Lions played as a true team as there hard work and determination paid off. Offensively Becky Reifler had 4 goals and was continuously fed by the hard working wing play of Katie O'Neill, Daniella Joyce and Kelly Tierney all of whom dominated the flow of play on the outside. Ally Sweeney and Jacqueline Marino ( who also played an important defensive role ) contributed greatly to the offensive effort as well. The midfield was anchored and controlled all weekend by Gina Timpano, Maddie McGuire and Meaghan Kiely. Defensively time and again sweeper Sarah Rubino, Erin Pfail, Emily Cafaro and the goal tending and defensive play of Hanna Fitzpatrick and Grace Parks were awesome. Congratulations to all the girl's on there great weekend and with there continued effort to a great season filled with success.
