Garden City High School News
By Sara Hayes

For the first semester of school this year I will be interning at Garden City News. For my internship I will be writing a column every other week about the various events taking place at Garden City High School.

From when we're little we're told that if you blink... you'll miss it. This refers to any aspect of your life that could pass quickly. When I started high school, like everyone else, I was told to enjoy it because it passes by so fast you won't know where it went. Well I did succeed in enjoying high school and yet it still passed me by so fast I feel like I didn't live it, like I was watching by as someone else did. There's still eight months left senior in year but it feels like there might as well be one.

One of the main reasons the year goes by so much faster are the unique rights seniors receive that younger grades have to wait for. The most basic privilege is parking privileges. Seniors don't have to park in the junior parking lot anymore which is better because the main parking lot is much closer. Of the special bonuses of senior year there are the obvious ones such as prom and graduation. However Garden City still has everyone's favorite, senior privileges. Senior privileges are certain periods (any periods that fit into your schedule) when seniors are allowed to leave to go wherever they want. As long as people respect them and get back to school when they have to the privileges will be around for longer. Another wonderful thing is the reward for doing well in Economics. Economics is one of the two required Social Studies classes for seniors, the other being Government. For the two quarters seniors take Economics maintaining a 90 average or above makes you exempt from the final. Government is also unique because in general there is just no final to take.

Senior year is as different from every other year as could be possible. Already it's my favorite and of course as a result it's the one that goes by the fastest. The privileges we're rewarded help make the last year of high school stand out from all the others.
