Since early September, the Nassau County Museum of Art has been hosting more than 100 of the paintings of Long Island artist Mort Kunstler. Stretching back to pre-revolution Native American scenes to paintings of the Space Shuttle commissioned by NASA, Mr. Kunstler's work is noted for its level of authenticity, drama and historical detail. With these facts in mind the social studies department spent an afternoon with museum education director Ms. Jean Henning viewing the Kunstler works. The information provided by Ms. Henning, such as the use of Kunstler's neighbors for many of the faces in his paintings or Mr. Kunstler's attention to historical accuracy added to a better understanding of the artist and his work. The show will run through November 5
