Teachers Under Construction

In early May, Eileen Hussey and Kathy Maher, two former Garden City teachers and Garden City residents, participated in a Sea Island Women Build Habitat for Humanity Project in South Carolina. The Sea Island Habitat for Humanity has a long history of support and success and was named the 2005 Affiliate of the Year. Eileen and Kathy joined nearly 300 women volunteers from all over the country, nailing, hammering and constructing a home for a single mother and her family. Two intense days of challenging work left Eileen and Kathy with sore muscles, new friends, and a sense of accomplishment. The experience was so worthwhile that Eileen and Kathy plan to do it again next year.
