Thunder 8's Fall To Uniondale

The White GC Thunder 8's took to the field against Uniondale on a windy, overcast day for their first away game of the season on Sunday, October 1st.

Game captains Chris Halka, Christian Ferris, Mike Franco and Mike Goulard took to the field and won the coin toss, putting the Thunder offense on the field for the first plays from scrimmage. Quarterback Matt Chmil immediately went to work, running Dan Confort, Brian Leggett and Jack Capetola for first downs behind offensive linemen Sean Knowles, Max Sutherland, Joe Phillipas and Peter McCarty before Uniondale's defense buckled down near the 20 yard line, causing Thunder to turn over the ball on downs.

The defensive line, behind Kevin MacDougal, Matt Quinn, Matt Muscarella, and Dom Avitablile, slashed through the Uniondale line on Uniondale's first possession, who coughed the ball up to linebacker Chris Halka, who came away from the scrum with the fumble.

Both sides then settled down into a defensive struggle, with neither team being able to put points on the board.

With less than four minutes left in the first half, defensive back Jack Capetola in a spectacular defensive display, ran cross field to take down the Knights' QB from behind, saving the touchdown. Alas it was not to be, for Uniondale, on their third try, pushed the ball across the goal line and led, 6-0, at the half.

Thunder came back onto the field for the start of the second half, with the defense ready to go. Mike DeSanti, Jaime Atkinson, Brian McKenna, and Dan Casale fought hand to mouth in the trenches as Uniondale tried running to the outside; as they came down the field threatening to score, Dylan Hughes got his hand on the ball and Matt Chmil came away with Thunder's second fumble recovery of the game.

With time running out, Uniondale scored on the last play of the game, in a game where all Thunder players gave it all they had!
