disney on ice tickets

The Garden City Recreation Department has secured tickets on consignment for Nassau Coliseum's Disney on Ice "Princess Wishes." Tickets are available at the Recreation Office in Village Hall for Thursday, November 16 th at 7:30 p.m. at a cost of $29 per ticket, or Saturday, November 18 th at 11 a.m., at a cost of $24 per ticket.

Tickets must be paid in cash only, no checks are accepted. Tickets are available to any Garden City resident on a first come, first served basis. No more than 6 tickets may be purchased by any one family. For further information, please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

preschool arts and crafts at cluett hall

The Recreation Department will be offering a six week arts and crafts workshop for village resident Preschoolers. These classes are held once a week in a 45 minute session at Cluett Hall. Children must be 3 1/2 years old at the start of the class. The six week session will be held on the following days:

Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.Thursday at 12:15 p.m.

and will start the week of October 11 th. The cost of these workshops will be $30. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

yoga classes offered

Our fall session of yoga will begin the week of October 2 nd. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor has designed classes with all ages in mind. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes. The description of our classes is listed below:

YogaDoesit 1 (for relaxation and good health)

In this "gentle yoga" class, we'll explore and discover how simple yoga postures and breath work help to relieve stress, tension and improve flexibility and straighten muscles. Since yoga has been found to benefit everyone including seniors, those with back problems, headaches, sleeping problems and other medical challenges, all are welcome. So if you want to relax the mind/relax the body and learn more about yoga, please join us in this gentle yoga class. Bring a sticky mat, wear comfortable clothes and come to relax and even have some fun. Other props will be suggested at the first class. (this class was formerly Yoga over 50)

YogaDoesit 2 (For relaxation and fitness)

In Yoga Does II, we'll explore and discover the many benefits of yoga. Yoga postures and breath work help to relieve stress and tension as well as straighten muscles and improve flexibility. This class will include more challenging postures (than YogaDoesit I). So if you are looking for a good workout as well as a way to relax the mind/relax the body, please join us. Bring a sticky mat, wear comfortable clothes. Other props will be suggested at the first class.

The course schedule is as follows:

Each 10 ten week course will cost $50 and each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. To register for any of these classes, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

learn garden city history with john ellis kordes

The Garden City Recreation Department will be offering a five week course on our town's history with the help of John Ellis Kordes, Garden City Historian.

This five week course will be held on Monday Nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the new Senior Recreation Center in St. Paul's Cottages. The classes will begin Monday, October 23 rd and the cost for the sessions will be $30.

Each week will cover a different topic pertaining to our village:

Week one: The life and times of A.T. Stewart and the events that led up to the founding of the Village and Stewart's death.

Week two: The Stewart kidnapping case, the creation of the Garden City Company and the early development of the Village.

Week three: The incorporation of the Village, early aviation, the development of the school system and a business district.

Week four: Garden City as a completed village and the problems it has faced over the last forty years.

Week five: Date and time to be determined - John will give an historic bus tour of the village.

This workshop is open to village residents of all ages. To register, please visit the recreation Office in Village Hall.

Aerobic classes are held in St. Paul's Cluett Hall according to the following schedule:

Our instructors are up to date on the latest moves to keep you interested while exercising. Pat and Joy have years of experience and can show the individual how to modify the exercises to their levels.

To attend a single class, you only need to show on a given day and pay $4.00. If you would like to attend regularly, then we have 20 class passes that cost $60, a savings of $1.00 per class. The Recreation Department's adult dance classes are open to any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The list of classes is as follows:

Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.Stretch and Tone to Music

Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. Adult Ballet

Thursday at 9:30 a.m.Stretch and Tone to Music

Saturday at 11 a.m.Jazz for Adults

Each class will be held for 15 weeks at a cost of $120. Classes run for 55 minutes and will start the week of September 25 th. To register for any of these classes, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

Junior Paddle clinic at community Park

A Junior Paddle Clinic will be offered at the GC CP beginning Friday Oct 13 th. The clinic will be offered to Garden City residents in grades 6-8 from 5-6:30 p.m. and residents in grades 9 and above from 6:30-8 p.m. The program will be run under the direction of Susan Tarzian. The cost of this program is $100 and will be run for 5 weeks. Pizza included... Paddle clinic for adults at community Park

A Paddle Clinic for Adult residents of Garden City will be offered at the Community Park on Wed. October 4 th. It will be run under the direction of Susan Tarzian and Performance Paddle Camp. The Performance Paddle Camp Staff consists of nine time National Women's Champion Gerri Viant, Mike Gillespie and Jay Fraser. All are certified Paddle Professionals and Tennis Instructors.

There will be 3 sessions offered as follows:

8:30-11:30 a.m. 12-3 p.m.7-10 p.m.

Cost of the clinic is $135 per person. Groups of four are encouraged and suggested.

There will be no more than 4 persons per court and no less than 3 with one pro. Please contact Sue Tarzian at 741-2906 for more information and availability.

There are limited openings still available for the Recreation Department's Dance Conservatory Program. This program is open to any child who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Please visit the Recreation Office in Village hall for further information or to register.

adult roller hockey

The Garden City Recreation Department is also proud to offer an Over 35 Adult Roller Hockey Pick Up game Program this fall for residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City Only!! All Games are played on Sunday Evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the Garden City Community Park Roller Hockey Rinks.
