Saturday, September 23, 2006. The Thunder 9s traveled to Franklin Square's Rath Park to take on the Warriors on a warm muggy night under the lights. Game day captains Brendan Digan, Brian "Moose" Colamussi, and Colin DeAngelo led the Thunder through their warm up routine and then met the Warriors' game day captains for the coin toss. The Warriors won the toss and elected to receive the ball, the Thunder were set to play some defense, and defense was what the entire first half was all about. The Thunder stopped the Warriors on their first drive with Jack "Spoon"Brennan recovering a fumble caused by Alex "Hammer" Wood. The defensive line of Jack Murtagh, Bobby Menges, Joseph Williams, and Mike Brennan came to play and put together an impressive first half.

Thunder Fathers vs The Thunder
The Thunder began a drive starting at their own 10 yard line and drove the ball down the field behind some outstanding blocking by Nick "Tank" Gray, Luke Armstrong, James O'Sullivan, Joseph Morreale, Jack "The Bus" Tobin, and George "Petro" Petropoulos. Matt Thomas at quarterback team up with Brian Goepfert for some impressive gains on offense down the middle behind some great blocking of the offensive line. The Thunder's offense had the ball the entire 2nd quarter driving it 85 yards to the 5 yard line but could not put it in the end zone. The score at half time was 0-0 and the fans were getting their money's worth in what was a great defensive battle.

In the second half Evan Nagel and Jay McNamara, playing defensive corner back, turned it up a notch and were containing the Warrior's sweeps. Unfortunately for the Thunder the Warriors found some cracks in the defense and were able take the lead and keep it through the 4th quarter. Great effort by the Thunder it felt like the Penn State-Ohio State game played earlier in the day where the score did not tell the whole story. The Thunder travel to Farmingdale to take on the Hawks on Sunday at 3:30pm, come out and cheer them on. Go Thunder!
