Former Resident Publishes Second Book Former Garden City resident Erin Heenan Ley is back to announce the release of her second book, "Maggie Unmasks Planet Pumpkin," which emphasizes the importance of self-esteem, individuality and courage. The book is set at a Halloween party that Maggie has decided to throw. It is her very first costume party, and she is incredibly excited - until she realizes that with all of the guests wearing masks, she will not be given the opportunity to get to know them on a more personal level. Little does she know the problems that will ensue when she tries to get her guests to take their masks off - an occurrence that is very important to Maggie, who wants to know her guests for who they really are. Mrs. Lay is a 1984 graduate of Garden City High School and currently lives in Smithtown with her husband and three children. "I understand and feel compelled to stress the importance of developing strong, positive character traits in young children," she says. The "Maggie the Magnificent" book series has been written for grades K-6 and discusses important themes that encourage children to be more aware of their individuality. "My intent is to reach as many children as I can by illustrating the value of good character and the difference that such personal traits can make in their early life experiences. My goal is to inspire children to recognize the significance of their individuality and the personal effect they have on others," explained Mrs. Ley. "The books are not only entertaining and informative; the text (from " Maggie in the Driver's Seat") has been used as a lesson enhancer for many teachers over the years." With endorsements from such noted individuals as Whoopi Goldberg, Alison Bartlett O'Reilly, and Jim Breuer, the "Maggie the Magnificent" book series has a very promising and influential future, as do the children who read it.
