Free Opera Performance:"Gilbert & Sullivan From A to Z"

Stanley Horowiz's "Red Spine Leaf."
The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Co. of L.I. will perform a musical revue with 267 songs from all 14 Gilbert & Sullivan operas in "Gilbert & Sullivan From A to Z" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the Garden City Library. The performance will feature a talented quintet of singers and dancers accompanied by piano. This show by Director Phil Gellis and Musical Director Andrea Stryker-Rodda offers something for everyone with comic patter songs, love duets, and beautiful harmonies. The non-profit Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Co., of L.I. has been giving professional-quality performances since 1954.

Art Exhibits

Photographer Stanley Horowitz will exhibit "Nature's Mosaics" from October 1-29 in the Garden City Public Library gallery. Enjoy photos in black and white and color capturing smaller scenes such as flowers within large landscapes. Professor Horowitz teaches photography at the State University of New York at Farmingdale.

"I am drawn to sunlit fields and expansive forests, but the smaller scenes within the large landscape capture my imagination," he said. "My eyes gravitate to tiny groups of flowers, nestled in a rock outercropping or a smaller copse of trees with intricate backgrounds."

Comtemporary artists Fred S. Pines and Lisa M. Zilker will exhibit "Idealized Mountains" from October 1-30 in the Garden City Public Library showcases. View ceramic sculpture and works on paper. Fred Pines is an art consultant and art appraiser. His interest in Chinese scholar's rocks and surrealist "Decalcomania" is reflected in his art. Lisa Zilker exhibits her work regularly in solo and group shows. Her last solo show was at The National Arts Club in New York City. She will display her sculpture maquettes and related oil pastels on paper.

Exhibits are FREE and open to the public during regular library hours.

For hours and directions, call (516) 742-8405 . The library is located at 60 Seventh Street in Garden City. Funding for gallery and showcase exhibits is provided by The Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Installation and removal dates are subject to change.
