Scout Weekend At Frost Valley A Success!

John Toto, Richard Masters, Thomas Zwicke, James Amato, Stefan Gerek and Brandon Roseblatt find a frozen waterfall on a hike
It has been a very busy 2006 for Cub Scout Pack 7. Though still young the year has already included a sleepover at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, the Pinewood Derby, and our Blue and Gold Brunch.

During the weekend of March 17th through 19th Garden City' Cub Scout Pack 7 visited Frost Valley in New York's Catskill Mountains. Frost Valley is a 6,000 acre YMCA providing camping and educational programs. With almost 70 scouts and family members attending the pack filled up two of the camp's super lodges and enjoyed the activities at Frost Valley's first ever Cub and Boy Scout Weekend.

The activities were many and varied. Many enjoyed hikes highlighting cable bridges, frozen waterfalls, ecology and geological formations. Others climbed the indoor rock wall, took on the rope obstacle course, hit the archery range, or played floor hockey, basketball, football. Crafts included model rocket building and launching, birdhouse building, and candle making. In addition their were tours of the Raptor Center featuring red tail hawks and owls, and Frost Valley's Sugar House where they make their own maple syrup. Did you know that on average it takes more than 35 gallons of Sugar Maple Tree sap to make one gallon over Maple Syrup?

Evening activities included campfires, stargazing, and games. The stars were out in full force in the evening and the sky looked unlike anything seen from Long Island. All of the activities were enjoyed in a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains, streams, and the wonders of nature, including and fresh snow.

The trip was organized by Nancy Rosenblatt and Bob Gerek, who went out of their way to make sure a memorable weekend was had by all.

Upcoming events include camping trips, fishing, a baseball game, and sleeping over on a battleship.
