U-11 Demons Conclude Season
The U-10 Demons concluded the 2006 season last Saturday by defeating the Manhasset Titans by the score of 4-2 on the strength of 2 first half goals from Carney Mahon and one each by Kevin Mullin and Dale Stasco. The Demons enjoyed a highly successful Fall campaign. The boys won seven games and lost only two in league play giving them second place in Nassau Division 2 finishing just under Albertson by one point. In addition to being proud of their numerous achievements throughout the season, the boys can take pride in the fact that they soundly defeated Albertson earlier in the season 6-3. Including tournament and State Cup play, the Demons finished a combined 12 wins against 3 losses. In addition, the team went undefeated on the road, scored a total of 29 goals in nine regular season games and yielded just 16 during that stretch for an average of 1.78 per game. Goalkeeper Ray Leto and the entire defensive corps, which consisted largely of Mark DeSantis, Will Harrington, Jack Tigh, and Dale Stasco were fantastic throughout the season. It's been said that defense wins championships, and the Demons proved that earlier in the year by capturing the Waldbaum's Cup. Alongside the fullbacks was the offense led by Matthew Rogers. He and his fellow strikers were a force. Rogers led all strikers with 13 regular season goals. Not far behind him were Carney Mahon, Jack "Big Goal" Gillan, Kevin Mullin, Danny Simmons and speedy Mike Randazzo. Midfielders Greg Vouzianas and Peter Escribano owned their territory and worked tirelessly with the defense to continue to feed the offense. There were tremendous contributions from all players. The Demons stand to move up to Division 1 come Springtime and we all will look forward to that.
Congratulations to coach Tom Gillan and assistants Chris Vouzianas and Kevin Harrington on a phenomenal season. So many memories, magical moments in goals and key saves. Without your time, efforts, knowledge and great spirit, season's such as this one don't occur often. We look forward to the Spring season with great anticipation. Well done Demons! Well done.
