In Memoriam
William C. Goodale William C. Goodale, proprietor of Hart's Hardware in Southold, died at his home in Southold on Saturday, December 2, 2006. He was 65 years old. "Bill" was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 13, 1941 to Andrew E. and Ruth C. (nee Hempel) Goodale. He attended the Martin VanBuren High School in Queens and the University of Rhode Island. On October 12, 1961, he married the former Karen Mack at Advent Lutheran Church in Mattituck. Together they summered in New Suffolk until moving there permanently in 1972 and to Southold five years ago. For the past thirteen years, Bill has owned Hart's Hardware and was also a Licensed Funeral Director for over twenty-five years. He has managed the Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Garden City and later worked as a Director at the former Williams Funeral Home in East Hampton. In the community, Bill was an active member of the Kiwanis club and was currently the Master of the Peconic Lodge #349 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Greenport. He was also a member of the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association. In addition to this wife, Bill is survived by a son, Richard W. Goodale of Southold, his daughters, Lisa G. Jerome of Southold and Jennifer G. Galea of Moultonborough, New Hampshire; a brother, Robert of Mattituck; a sister, Andrea Rive of New Suffolk and six grandchildren; Christopher, Stephen, Matthew and Jessica Jerome and Jacob and Jacquelyn Galea. The family received friends on Tuesday and Wednesday at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold where Masonic services and religious services by Reverend Warren Beaven, a personal friend and pastor of the Huntington Methodist Church were held. The Funeral will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greenport with Reverend Garret Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cutchogue Cemetery. Katherine T. Ross Katherine T. Ross, formerly of Garden City passed away at the age of 96 on November 25, 2006 at her home in Mobile, Alabama. Katherine and her husband Walter Ross, who passed away in 1987, lived in Garden City for over 40 years, were longstanding members of Cherry Valley Country Club and active members of the community for decades. Katherine was the loving mother of Joan Coley of Mobile Alabama and Michael Ross of Garden City, beloved grandmother to Maryanne Ball, Sean Coley, Kara Coats, and David Coley IV (who died in 1987) of Mobile, Alabama; and Valerie Conklin, David Ross, and Jenny Ross of Garden City. Katherine was great grandmother to Katherine, John, Michelle, Stuart, Catherine, Anne Arden, Mary, Maggie, David, Henry, Robert, William, and Anna. Katherine was great-great grandmother to Christopher Michael and Joan Elizabeth. Katherine is lovingly remembered by all that knew her for her grace, charm, optimism, elegance.
