What Child Is This?

2006-12-08 / Community

The choirs of Garden City Community Church will present a program of Christmas music on Sunday, December 10 at 4:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend "What Child Is This?" - featuring favorite Christmas carols in exciting new arrangements. Beloved carols will include "Away in a Manger," "Still, Still, Still," and "Il est né, le divin enfant," as well as popular songs of the season such as "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." The arrangements are crafted by Bob Chilcott, one of the most popular and accessible living composers of choral music, and they will be sung by the Adult, Carol, and Cantamus choirs of the community church. The church's bell choir will also offer seasonal favorites (including Carol of the Bells), and the program will conclude with an audience sing-a-long that is certain to put anyone in the holiday spirit.

Another musical event not to be missed is at the Community Church on Sunday, December 24 at 10:30 a.m., when the church's young people will present "The Birds of Bethlehem" by Richard Shephard. This clever musical drama involves dance as well as song, and tells of the meaning of Christmas through various birds that came to visit the Christ Child- nightingale, bluebird, cuckoo, stork, owl, raven and dove. The Birds of Bethlehem is part of a Christmas Eve morning service designed especially for children.

The Garden City Community church is part of the United Church of Christ. Worship services are Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with the church school for children and a crib room for infants and toddlers at the later service. Garden City Community Church is located at Stewart Avenue and Whitehall Boulevard. For more information, call 746-1700 or visit www.gccommunitychurch.org .
