With a 2-0 win over Sayville in the Class B Long Island final on Sunday November 12th, Garden City's varsity field hockey team was on its way to Syracuse for its second straight appearance in the state tournament.
In what was a very physical game, it took the Trojans nine minutes to score against Sayville when Caitlin Mullins scored off an assist from Erin Brennan. Although that goal would ultimately be the game winner, Caroline McTiernan assured the win with a goal in the second half off of an assist from Kaitlyn Gallagher.
Five days later, the team was in Syracuse, facing Maine-Endwell in the Class B state field hockey semifinal at Alliance Bank Park.
Sophomores Caroline McTiernan and Amanda Keller each scored to lead the team to a 2-0 victory and the right to play in the championship game against Glens Falls.

Garden City went into the championship game with a 20-0 record. One more win and not only would the team complete an undefeated season, but they would win a state championship for the second year in a row.
Trailing 1-0 and 2:55 into the second half, Elise Terracciano scored for Garden City off of a shot from Caitlin Mullins. With the score tied, and 5:48 left in the game, Kaila McDonnell scored the winning goal to give Garden City the 2-1 victory and the Class B field hockey state title.
