Varsity Swimmers Compete At States

The girls varsity swim team finished 10th out of 72 high schools at the New York State High School Swimming Championship Meet in Buffalo. The state meet was held at Erie Community College November 17 and 18. Garden City was represented by four Varsity swimmers, Jenna Daly, Erica Derlath, Sarah Schliehte and Megan Zarriello. Individually, juniors Jenna and Erica finaled in both of their events. Erica was the Public School State Champion in the 500 free and 3rd in the 200 IM. Jenna was 10th in the 200 free and 6th in the 500 free. Megan, an 8th grader, also made it back to finals and finished 19th in the 500 free. Sarah joined Jenna, Erica and Megan for the 400 freestyle relay which placed 13th. At the State Qualifying meet, held on November 9th, this relay rebroke the Garden City High School record for the 2nd time in less than a week. Erica Derlath's times in both her events earned her All-American honors. Congratulations to both the girls and Coach Anne Sullivan.
