Oh Canada! Undefeated Season
Undefeated 8 Year Old Team Canada Front Row: Brianna, Natalie, Tianna, Alicia Middle Row: Claire, Lauren, Jamie, Juliana, Olivia, Nicole Top Row: Coaches Britta and Brian
It was a magical season for Coach Brian Kubler's First Place "Team Canada." This spirited and hard working squad, under the direction of Coach Kubler and assistant coaches Britta Garcia and Ed Walsh, dutifully attended their practices and gave a 110% effort each and every game day. Their success was not about individual efforts, but rather the way each girl learned to play position and work together as a team. The progress that they had made was most evident when they would on occasion fall behind by a goal, maintain their focus and make a glorious comeback. In alphabetical order, their winning recipe had the following ingredients:
Tianna Biscone: A lightning fast scoring machine with all the right moves, Tianna's assists outnumbered her goals and she was a huge defensive factor that forced many turnovers;
Brianna Cahill: Agile and tenacious, Brianna was always on the move just like the Energizer Bunny and she really made her opponents work on the field.
Olivia Coffey: This high energy player proved that she did not switch to de-caf as she gave fast-lane efforts each and every week.
Alicia Cristoforo: A confident goalie and agile striker, Alicia was a true team player that was always willing to play the position assigned to her with gusto.
Natalie Garcia: Quick, tireless and with the ability to put the ball in the net or pass to a fellow striker, Natalie always knew the game plan and never failed to deliver.
Juliana Kubler: The most powerful boot on the field, Juliana was a force to be reckoned with as some of her intended passes at mid-field turned into shots on goal!
Claire O'Brien: Another powerful kicker, Claire was equally effective on offense or defense and always had a big smile to let you know that she was having fun.
Lauren Oleksiw: Perhaps the sweetest player on the team, Lauren had great foot speed and finesse and exemplified team spirit and hustle on the field.
Nicole Smith: Whether she was in goal making saves, scoring goals or simply moving the ball up the field, Nicole's presence was highly valued by her teammates.
Jamie Sullivan: An infallible defender, Jamie frustrated numerous offensive onslaughts each and every week as she dutifully sent the ball out to the sidelines or up to her strikers.
Annie Walsh: A tenacious and smart player, Annie was always in the right place at the right time and knew what to do when it was time to make a key pass.
This incredible group of well coached eight year olds proudly brought home First Place trophies as they finished their season without a single loss and had one heck of a time along the way. Remember their names sports fans; years from now you can say that you read about them when they were only in third grade!
