Registration begins on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 9:00 AM for "Holiday Candle Holders" with Joanne McGerty. This program is for Garden City residents, ages 21/2-5 (No Kindergarten), with an adult. The program will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9. Choose one time slot, either 9:30 AM or 10:30 AM.
Registration will begin on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 9:00 AM for Creative Crafts with Shirley Ruby. The schedule of programs is as follows: 10:00 AM "Hanging Snowflake with Snowman", for Garden City residents in Grades K-2; and at 11:30 AM "Decorative Hanging Snowflakes", for Garden City residents in Grades 3-5. The programs will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16.
The Spectrum Players from Hofstra University will perform "Holka Polka", on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Garden City Public Library. The show is about fairytale witches who try to redeem themselves for all the wrong doings they have done in the past. This program is for Garden City residents, ages 4 through Grade 5 and their families. The performance starts at 2:30 PM and is approximately 45 minutes long. No tickets or registration required. Don't miss this wonderful show!
Book Discussions have begun. Registration is in the Children's Room and is ongoing.
Chapter Chat, for children presently enrolled in Second Grade. Program is forty-five minutes. Wednesdays at 4:00pm. Session remaining: November 29. Registration began September 9.
New Friends in Books Club, for children presently enrolled in Third Grade. Program is forty-five minutes. Wednesdays at 5:00pm. The remaining session is on December 6. Registration began September 9.
The Page Turners, for children presently enrolled in Fourth and Fifth Grade: Remaining session: December 9, 1:30-2:30, Registration began November 11.

Adult Winter Reading Club
We invite you to join the Garden City Public Library's first Adult Winter Reading Club to be held from December 4th to March 23rd. Receive a gift just for signing up! There are no meetings. You choose the books you want to read or listen to. You will fill out a review card for each book. You will then be entered into a final drawing to be held at the "Cozy Up with a Good Book" Brunch (invitation only) to be held on March 30th. The more review cards you fill out, the more chances you have to win! Registration is for Garden City adult residents only and begins Monday, December 4th. Gift Wrapping Demonstration Extravaganza
Join us at the Garden City Public Library on Wednesday, November 29th at 7:30pm for 101 incredible ideas for gift wrapping for the holidays and all year round. Unique ways of wrapping gifts for children and teens and how to wrap those odd sized objects. Learn the art of the bow and the art of embossing. How about a gift within a gift and wrapping with a theme in mind? Even learn about making your own handmade gift wrap. There is no registration needed for this program. Basic Genealogy Research Workshop
Wednesday, Jan. 24th 7:00pm
Not sure how to start researching your U.S. relatives? This workshop will explain basic genealogy research skills, such as using databases to find U.S. Census records, getting copies of vital records (births, deaths, and marriages) where to find social security records and naturalization records and so much more. Each participant will receive a packet that includes hand-outs covering up to date information on genealogy web sites, genealogical societies, genealogy books and magazines, and genealogy software. What's Up For Young Adults At The Library
TEEN MOVIE AFTERNOON
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III
Pizza and drinks will be served at the showing of the action/adventure/thriller Mission Impossible III. The special showing for Young Adults will be on Saturday, November 25 at
1 PM. The film which is rated PG-13 runs for 126 minutes. Come see Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) come face to face with a dangerous and sadistic arms dealer while trying to keep his identity secret in order to protect his girlfriend.
BABYSITTING WORKSHOP
An additional babysitting workshop series has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 21st and Wednesday, November 29th. Priority registration was given to those on the wait list for the September/ October series. There are a few spots available for this group. Please call the Young Adult Librarian to inquire about availability.
MAKE A MUSIC VIDEO
Registration begins Saturday, November 18th when the Library opens at 9 AM for a two part workshop, Make A Music Video, taught and produced by Frank Cento. The program begins Saturday, December 2 at 2 PM. Be the next American Idol. Write rap or hip-hop lyrics, record the song and dance in the video. The second session held on December 16th at 2 PM will continue with production. The product will be edited to create a final product. Each actor gets a copy of the finished movie including outtakes in their choice of VHS or DVD in time for holiday celebrations. The program is limited to 15 registrants who must commit to two-2 hour sessions.
COLLEGE PREP
The College Guides section of the Young Adult Department has many books on filling out college applications and writing winning essays for those applications. Deadlines are closing for seniors' early applications. Get some helpful hints! Others, get a jump start.

"Artists of the American Association of University Women"
Artist members of the American Association of University Women of Garden City will exhibit their works December 1, 2006-January 4, 2007 in the Garden City Public Library's lower gallery. View photography, painting and other media in various styles and topics. The organization is celebrating women in the arts with a coordinated artists reception and program on Monday, December 4 at 7 p.m.
"Dorrit Title: Assemblage & Work On Paper"
"Dorrit Title": Assemblage & Work on Paper" will be exhibited in the Garden City Public Library's showcases December 1-30, 2006. See shadow box constructions with various themes: "Dinner with Great-Grandmother," "Natural History," "Portrait of Anna," and "Vienna Rendezvous." Dorrit Title is a graduate of the Cooper Union Art School and the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been shown at the Nassau County Museum of Art, Heckscher Museum, Islip Museum and other galleries. She is a founding member of the Artists Network of Great Neck. She created work in painting, printmaking, & assemblage.
Exhibits are FREE and open to the public during regular library hours.

"The Art Of Rockefeller Center"

From the beginning, John D. Rockefeller incorporated art into his plans for Rockefeller Center in New York City, commissioning pieces meant to inspire with visions of idealism, work ethics, and religion. Over one hundred major works embellish the twenty-two acre complex, making the center the world's largest indoor/outdoor urban museum. The artists include such noted figures as Gaston Lachaise, Lee Lowrie, Paul Manship, Carl Milles, Isamu Noguchi, Diego Rivera, and William Zorach. Christine Roussel, former director of the reproductions studio at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and founder of the monument restoration company C. Roussel Inc., will present a slide and lecture program based on her book, The Art of Rockefeller Center. This program will thrill and satisfy all those who marvel at this great American icon. J.J. Newberry's. The fact is that just about all dime store merchandise from the golden era, the years 1925-1955, is highly collectible. Learn how seemingly worthless discarded items in your attic or basement could be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars! Everyone in the audience will get a free appraisal of any one antique or collectible, regardless of what it is or how old it is. Holiday Greenery Demonstration
Tuesday, December 5th 10:00AM
Get ready to decorate with greenery for the holidays. This program will demonstrate how to create different arrangements for the holiday season. You will learn to make a traditional English kissing ball, table centerpieces and a wreath. At the end of the program these festive arrangements will be raffled off.
