Elections And Christmas Affairs On Retired Men's Calendar
The penultimate Garden City Retired Men's Club in-house party completely filled the Senior Center and drew a number of new and long-missed faces. The next shindig at the Center is the pizza party on Thursday, November 30.
On December 11 the Club will hold its biennial election along with its traditional Christmas in-house. This year Joe Leto seeks the presidency and Jerry Weisberg seeks to become the new secretary. Al Urban, now the 2d vice-president, will run for the post of 1st president which will include the duties of house committee leader and George Rivara seeks to continue as treasurer. The post of 2d vice-president remains open.
Any member wishing to run or contest for any of these offices need only produce the name of five Club members backing his election to a current executive board member.
The annual Christmas luncheon, at which the newly elected board members will be introduced, will be held at the Cherry Valley Country Club on December 20th at 12 p.m. The tab is $40. Send checks to George Rivara, 14 First Street, GC, NY, 11530.
The menu will include Vince Prestyly's favorite hors d'oeuvres: three-cheese pizzettes; also scallops wrapped in bacon, Coney Island pigs-in-a-blanket and sesame chicken on skewers. The Cherry Valley's signature salad will precede a selection of one of three entrees: roast breast of chicken in a reisling wine sauce; pan roasted New Zealand barramundi (perch) and sliced Colorado prime sirloin.
All entrees are served with roasted potato and seasonal vegetables. One bar drink is on the Club and soft drinks come with the meal.
All this is followed by warm apple crisp and coffee, that satisfying sweet that signals the end of a nice afternoon.
