GCAA Thunder Maroon 10's Win Another Vs. Bellmore
Marty Waters gaining some tough yards
Football is a contact sport. Football is an emotional sport. Football is a thrilling sport. But above all, football is a team sport. This past Sunday at Stewart Field the Thunder Maroon 10's showed how hard work can make a group of players become a team.
Clock Management Coach Jim Moran summed up it up best, "Someone once asked me, Jim, how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Simple answer- practice, practice, practice. These kids have been at it all season." Well-spoken coach.
The game started with workmanlike blocking by the offensive line. These guys up front play hard every single down and the running game has never been more successful. Linemen Joe Creighton, Jack Kennelly, Marty Waters, Kyle Wein, Albert Souissis and Tom Leggett all finished their blocks and made the running backs jobs easier.
Running backs Ryan Guarino, Kyle Harder and Anthony Preziosi ran for big yardage against a tough Bellmore defense. The game's first score was a perfectly executed halfback option from Anthony Preziosi to Richie Mattone.
McGoldrick - Rumblin' and Stumblin'
The defense allowed only one Bellmore score, making the score 6-6. The key drive that sealed the game was another long drive deep into Bellmore territory. Taking a page from the 85' Bears, Offensive lineman Kieran "the fridge" McGoldrick, rumbled in from the four yard-line to give the Thunder the lead for good.
Kicker Chris Hourmouzis delighted the crowd by kicking a two-point conversion. Chris also boomed the ensuing kickoff deep into Bellmore territory. Coach Blair was asked if kicking the extra point in a heavy wind was a risk, Coach Blair replied, "Chris has a bigger boot than Mother Goose, so it was a no-brainer."
With the lead safely in hand, the Thunder defense kept the Braves from getting anymore points in the game. Big hits by Michael Randazzo, Jack Anesner, Samer Bendery, Ryan Blair, Mike Keating and James Lark kept the score stuck at 14-6 for most of the second half. Monster backs Joe Leto, Desmond O'Malley and Anthony Zinga all broke through the Bellmore line for big stops.
A late touchdown by JP Moran sealed the victory for the Thunder. JP was asked how it felt to get a touchdown. JP, ever the team player responded, "It's about the team bro, it's about the team." This kid gets it folks.
PJ Moran takes it in for six!
Our next game is this coming Sunday at 1pm against the tough Elmont Cardinals.
Hope to you out there for the season finale.
GO THUNDER!
The kick is up.....and its good!
