The Garden City Historical Society recently hosted a successful reception for the artists featured in its current art show, "Garden City in Art: A Mixed Media Exhibit." The exhibit will be open to residents and visitors on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon to 5 p.m. from November 10 through November 26, at The Garden City Historical Society Museum, 109 Eleventh Street. Artworks include oils, watercolors, tempera batik, sculpture, computer graphics and photography.
The show, which has been generously partially underwritten by Astoria Federal Savings Bank, features work from residents of Garden City and non-residents who have been inspired by the beauty that surrounds us in this lovely Village. Please join us to share the artworks of:
Sue Alvey, whose paintings and drawings have graced the homes of many Garden City residents since 1980. She's a graduate of SUNY Albany with a Bachelor's in Studio Art.

Mary Jane (Michaela) Caldwell, long-time calligrapher and recently retired secondary art teacher of 33 years. Ms. Caldwell works in several mediums, including colored pencil, tempera batik and printmaking.
Susana Cerruti, whose many works are profound study of the human figure in marble and wood. Two of her sculptures are in permanent exhibition at the Garden City Library and Village Hall.
William W. Combes, a graduate of Garden City High School with a fine arts degree from Ohio University. Bill is a local businessman and professional photographer.
Noel Darvie, who studied drawing and painting at Art Students League and the Westchester Art Workshop. His paintings are on view at Garden City Galleries and www.noeldarvie.com.
Artist Susana Cerruti (second from left) came to the reception accompanied by her daughter (left) and twin grandchildren. They enjoyed a photo op with friends in front of Susana's artwork.
