College Selects Student For Team

2006-11-03 / Sports

Christopher A. Risi, the son of Karen and Joseph Risi of Garden City, has been selected to play for the Hamilton College football team for the 2006 season. Risi, a first year student, is a graduate of Garden City High School.

Steve Stetson is back for his second term as head football coach at Hamilton College. The goal for Stetson is to turn the team back into the consistent winner it had become when he was last on the Hamilton sidelines more than 20 years ago.

The 2006 team is anchored by an intimidating defense. Through four games the Continental Defense is allowing a paltry 9.2 points per game, has intercepted opponents six times, forced 11 fumbles (recovering 5), and recorded 21 tackles for loss (10 of which were sacks). Hamilton is 1-3 at the half-way point of the season.

Last weekend Hamilton defeated Bowdoin, breaking its nine game New England Small College Athletic conference losing streak which dated back to last season when the team went 1-7. It was the first shutout recorded by the Continentals since 1997, and represented the first points the team has scored this season.
