Bill Nye "The Science Guy" To Speak
Bill Nye
Adelphi welcomes scientist and television personality Bill Nye to discuss the climate, Mars and how scientists can help change the world in his lecture "We're All Humans, We're All Scientists ... Let's Change the World!" on Tuesday, November 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event is hosted by the Adelphi Chapter of the Society of Physics students and is free and open to the public.
Bill Nye, scientist, engineer, comedian, author, and inventor, is a man with a mission: to help foster a scientifically literate society, to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. While working as an engineer at Boeing in Seattle, Mr. Nye began to combine his love of science with his flair for comedy after winning a Steve Martin look-alike contest. He developed dual careers as an engineer by day and a stand-up comic by night, eventually quitting his engineering job and making the transition to a career as a comedy writer and performer on Seattle's home-grown ensemble comedy show "Almost Live." He went on to make a number of award-winning shows, including the show he became so well known for, "Bill Nye the Science Guy." The show won 28 Emmys in five years, with seven national Emmy Awards going to Mr. Nye for writing, performing, and producing. He is a graduate of Cornell with a Bachelors of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He holds two Honorary Doctorate degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Goucher College.
