In a very spirited game on Saturday, October 22, the Blazers met the Sackers.
The Blazers were truly on fire during the first half of this challenging meet. The Blazers controlled the ball virtually the entire half. Reed Bonvissuto quickly scored the first goal with a drive into the Sacker keeper which was caught, but back in the goal net. Blazers led 1:0.
Welcome back to the team Reed! Patrick Mohan, as first half keeper for the Blazers, made an excellent save when an indirect kick was granted to Cold Spring Harbor. Patrick dropped to his knees at precisely the right moment in a dramatic save. However, most of the plays were in front of the Sacker keeper who was kept quite busy by the Blazers. Chris Hourmouzis and Chris Stumpf were tireless on offense and had many great plays. In another great first half scoring moment, Joseph Giarraputo on defense powerfully kicked the ball over the Sacker heads to Zach Miner in front of the goal who scored for a 2:0 Blazers strong lead. Great teamwork guys! Halftime ended with a 2:1 Blazers lead.

The Sackers came back strong in the second half, hoping to "sack" the Blazers. But the Blazers were still smoking strong! Drew Pascale made some great plays while Brian Tully on defense most of the game showed determination and had some great moves. With CSH now taking initial control of the ball and ready to score, Jonathan Castoro came out of nowhere to prevent a CSH goal. Wow, what a great play Jonathan! Brendan Harney ran down field many times on defense and was as fast as ever, while Aidan Logan was powerful with his consistent big boot of the ball and
characteristic grunt. These guys are intimidating and great players!
Adam Davies, returning to the keeper position after a hand injury, was in the Blazer net during the second half of play. Adam made a tremendous save midway through the half with a fearless and agile dive to his right to push the ball out of play and prevent a CSH goal. Way to go Adam! Justin Gong made a great play by navigating around not one but two CSH players to bury the ball back to the Blazer side of the field. Nice skills Justin!

After an indirect kick awarded to the Sackers, Game was tied at 2 all. CSH scored another quick goal for a 3:2 lead.
In the sprit of determination that we have seen demonstrated all season by the Blazers, these avid soccer players did not give up. The game is not over until the final whistle blows. With only a few minutes of game time remaining and the Blazers now trailing from their original 2:0 lead at the start of the game, there were some pretty amazing plays. Adam Davies made another great save off the goal post. The Blazers quickly controlled the ball and Justin Gong took a great shot on goal that was just wide. Finally, Zach Miner took a shot on goal that everyone thought would score but just barely went over the CSH net. The whistle finally blew for a CSH game win at 4:2. Keep up that Blazer spirit!
