Fireballs Battle Center Moriches
Victoria Aldrich gets to the outside
The Fireballs came off of their terrific finish at Windsor to play division rival, the Center Moriches Power in a match last Sunday at the Soccer Park. After going five games without a blemish at the tournament, the girls saw their scoreless streak end about midway through the first half. After missing several early chances to score, the Fireballs turned the ball over in the midfield and had an unlucky bounce land on the foot of a Power striker and she was able to convert the break for a 1-0 lead. The Fireballs maintained continuous pressure on the Power defense throughout the remainder of the half and for the better part of the second half. GC did get numerous shots on goal but could not finish and the game ended with Center Moriches on top by that one goal margin. A tough defeat as the Fireball coaches, sideline and girls felt they could have had this one but it got away. On Sunday the girls will line up and try to get back to their winning ways against the Bayport Mist at St. Paul's at 2:00.
