How can a group of fourth graders spend a perfect autumn Sunday afternoon? Well, the children in Mrs.Waters' CCD class at St. Joseph's School volunteered their time and talents to build bird nesting boxes for the Garden City Bird Sanctuary (GCBS). They arrived with their tools and smiles and assembled the boxes in less than one hour. A leisurely tour of the sanctuary was enjoyed by all. The class thanks Mr. Kevin McGarry, Mrs. Petra Dehler and Mr. Marty Waters for all their help and support. The community service project was organized as a way to reinforce the subject of God's Creation - that we can not only appreciate God's creation but also take care of it. The children thank Mr. Rob Alvey, Founder of GCBS, for offering them the opportunity to participate in the preservation of our local environment. (Note: To volunteer as an individual or group, contact the GCBS at gcbirdsanctuary@aol.com .)
