Reserve Flu Shots At Senior Health Day

Senator Kemp Hannon (R-6th S.D.) is sponsoring his 5th Annual Senior Health & Awareness Day Friday, October 27, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hofstra University Arena, Earl Ovington Blvd., Uniondale. Senior health information, various health screenings, flu shots and information on senior programs such as elder care and long term health care insurance will be available on site.

Senior Citizen Flu Vaccination Program

Flu shots will be dispensed in cooperation with Nassau University Medical Center, Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, Nassau County Department of Health and New Island Hospital. There is no out-of-pocket expenseto seniors. Nassau County reserves the right to cancel or amend this program depending on vaccine availability.

Reservations are necessary and can be made beginning Tuesday, September 26th through Wednesday, October 25th, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by calling Senator Hannon's Community Office at 516-739-1700.

Free screenings at Senior Health and Awareness Day include blood pressure screening, glaucoma, screening, posture screening and body composition analysis . No reservations are necessary for these screenings.

Senior Health & Awareness Day provides seniors with the opportunity to speak with representatives from various health care agencies and programs, as well as gather information on some of the most important health issues facing seniors today. More than 60 state, county and local groups and agencies will be represented at the event, including: the Nassau County Dept. of Social Services, Social Security Administration, New York Lottery, MTA Long Island Bus (Access-A-Ride), Yours Ours Mine Community Center,Town of Hempstead Dept. of Senior Enrichment, Long Island Power Authority, Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island, Arthritis Foundation, Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, Senior Network Solutions, 1 in 9/Hewlett House, American Cancer Society, Broadlawn Manor Nursing Rehab Center, EAC Senior Respite Program, The Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island, Financial Freedom S.F.C., Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Causus, Helen Keller Services for the Blind, Home Instead Senior Care, JASA, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Lions Eye Bank for Long Island, L.I. Alzheimer's Foundation and the Nassau County Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs.

Senator Hannon said, "I encourage all seniors to come out and enjoy Senior Health & Awareness Day. In order for us to maintain a healthy quality of life we must be conscious of our bodies' needs, and this event will provide the information and testing needed to enhance understanding of personal health."
