It's happening again. I guess that it is always happening, but there are times when you just don't hear much about it and think that things are getting better. What am I talking about? Mail delivery - or the lack of it. I have been hearing of so much of that since September rolled around and all the activities have started up. That's when you realize you have not received the notice, Invitation, or what not that everyone else has gotten. Now you may not be able to attend your favorite meeting, bridge, or fund raiser because you just can't fit anymore in or you may be on a waiting list. Why me you ask when two other people on the same block got their notice/invitation? First ask yourself, did you shake out all the catalogues and flyers that were delivered? Many times your first class mail is hiding in them. Next, report it to your local Post Office- it won't get your mail back, but it will put them on notice that something is wrong and you should keep doing it for all undelivered mail. Will it help? I hope so, but I am not so sure - at least you did something about it. Good luck!

October is just around the corner and the members of the Community Club of Garden City & Hempstead are in for a special treat. Ruth Collins and her committee for General Programs for the club have arranged for 'Tea Time in Garden City" to be presented by Steven Debryn, Executive Chef at the Garden City Hotel. He will tell us all about the serving of Tea and its accompaniments - read goodies - Be prepared to take notes and bring a friend to enjoy it with you. Good for you Ruth.

Sally Richmond is Chairing the Wide World of Books for the Garden City Branch of A.A.U.W. and the first one will be "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austin. They will ponder English rules of inheritance, the dictates of society and the diverse loves and actions of the Dashwood sisters. Sounds good to me and they are also topics in today's world too.

The Ladies/Luncheon Bridge at the Garden City Casino swung into action this past week and there was a goodly crowd exchanging news of their summer along with their bids. Enjoying the afternoon were; Marilyn O'Brien, Florence Beach, Barbara Flanagan, Joan Jordan, Florence Coffin, and Bea Mercadante. Their next outing will be Tuesday, October 17th. The ladies love their game and it's even better when they can enjoy luncheon before it.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Hugh Farrell, who will be celebrating his special day on the 2nd of October, and to Dorothy Kraker, who will blow out the candles on her cake on the 6th of October. May all the happy celebrants enjoy a delightful day, a great year and have only good health and happiness and many more B-Days to come.

Happy Wedding Anniversary wishes go to Pauline and Bob Rudkin, who will be celebrating their 55th Wedding Anniversary on the 5th of October. That is a nice milestone for a delightful couple and we can only wish them many more happy anniversaries in health and happiness.

The lady golfers at the Garden City Country Club will soon be closing up shop with their Closing Day Shotgun and Luncheon on October 3rd and their Queen-of-the Green Tournament on October 12th. Their Awards and Closing Meeting will take place on October 25th and after that it's open for the Wooley Bears - so if it's a mild November and December - take advantage of it and get your games in.

Guess that's all for now, I will have to rest up, for the month of October will be a busy one. See you next week.
