A New Program Of Choirs
Beginning in September of 2006, the Community Church is offering a unique opportunity for boys and girls who enjoy music. Anyone of the right age is welcome to join one of the choirs, without an audition. There are three choirs - Alleluia Choir (Age 4-Grade 1) is the choir for our youngest singers, and is more focused on a positive musical experience than on preparation of music to sing in services. Carol Choir is named for the most popular style of religious music that exists, and is open to boys and girls in second through fifth grades. Cantamus Choir (Medieval Latin for "Let Us Sing") is open to girls in sixth through twelfth grades and boys of the same age with unchanged voices. Boys with changed voices are welcome to participate in the Adult Choir.
Singers learn how to read music like a professional and if they sing a NYSSMA solo in the spring, their participation in the choir will help them prepare for the sight-singing portion of the audition. The choirs are directed by Robert Ludwig, Director of Vocal Music and Music Theory at Garden City High School and a recognized expert in the training of children's voices. For more information about membership in the choirs, call 746-1700 or email RobertLudwig@aya.yale.edu.
The Garden City Community Church is part of the United Church of Christ.
