Kelly Reis Contains CSH While Carly Cento Looks On The Goalbusters, a GU-14 Soccer Team traveled to Cold Spring Harbor for a Match against the Cold Spring Harbor Glory on Sunday, September 17, 2006. The match started promptly at 9:00 a.m. on a glorious, sunny morning.

The coaches commented that this match was one of the best matches the Goalbusters have played. From the start, the Goalbusters took control of the tempo of the game. The defense, led by Kate Butcher, Christine Codignotto, Barbara Sullivan, T Takach and Kara Zerille helped goaltender Lauren Williams in keeping attempts on goal by the Glory offense from scoring. Christine and T cleared a few close attempts very close to the goal, giving Lauren a chance to take a breath. Barbara kept the middle clear while Kate and Kara ran down attempts from the sideline. Together, they were a wall that was hard for the Glory to penetrate.

The Midfielders, who always have their work cut out for them on both defense and offense, moved the ball very well up and down the field. Elizabeth Mahoney, Mikaela Rix, and Emily Winchurch were excellent in the middle of the field while Carly Cento, Maria Sokolovic, Cate Murphy were very much in control of the sidelines. The Goalbuster middies were quick to the ball, which gave them plenty of time to make crisp accurate passes up to the offense. The midfielders were instrumental in setting up the offense for good shots on goal. Goalbuster forwards including Krysta Cento, Katie McCarthy, Collen Mullin, Kelly Reis and Caroline Tarzian used their speed and cross passes to get by the Glory defense, which allowed them to give the Glory goaltender a run for her money.

Mikaela Rix received the ball off the bar and quickly passed it to Kelly Reis. Kelly was able to take a crisp shot on goal which sank in the net on the far left side of the Glory goaltender. The second goal was also scored in the first half, this time on a corner kick by Kelly Reis. Kelly kicked the ball, which landed in the middle of the goal area. Maria Sokolovic was there to take the shot, making the score 2-0. The Goalbusters had one more half to play and were successful in scoring again. On a pass through by Katie McCarthy to Mikaela Rix on the wing, Mikaela took a shot which the Glory goaltender deflected. Krysta Cento was there to follow up the shot, which passed the goalie for the third and final goal of the match. Late in the second half, the Goalbusters coaches, Walt Winchurch, Bill Mahoney and Pete Takach, moved the girls around to different positions. The Goalbusters were able to maintain their shut out when the whistle sounded for the end of the match.
