John Simmons and Kyle Brattan race to take the ball away from Port Washington. 11 boys strong, and every Warrior is as important as any other on this terrific U-10 team, who won on Saturday, Sept. 16th in Port Washington. The boys are really coming together as a team, showing terrific teamwork as 4 different players scored the 4 Warrior goals, shutting out the Port Washington Inferno 4-0.

It was the Warriors, however, who were the inferno from the beginning! Timmy Foxen and Kyle Brattan began by moving the ball nicely with great footwork, while Jonathan Granville, James Walsh, Owen Fisher and Matt Flynn had some hard boots back down the field. Thanks to great Warrior ball control, the ball took up residence in the Port Washington side of the field for most of the game, and "poor" Christopher Larkin, taking his turn in goal the first half, was downright lonely; only 2 Inferno shots even came his way!

John Simmons had GC's first shot on goal, followed quickly by Brogan Mahon who blasted a shot that unfortunately flew too high. James Walsh took the direct kick after a tripping penalty by a Port defender; James made a great attempt that was saved by the goalie. Gerard Smith nailed a hard shot at the goal that bounced off the goalie; John Simmons was right there to take the rebound and boot it in - SCORE! Teamwork!! 1-0, Warriors.

The victorious warriors celebrate with ice cream! They are: (back) Chris Larkin, Matt Greiner, Gerard Smith, Matthew Flynn, Brogan Mahon, Owen Fisher. (front) Kyle Brattan, John Simmons, James Walsh, Jonathan Granville, Timmy Foxen.

Meanwhile, the Warrior defense of James Walsh, Matt Greiner, Jonathan Granville, and Owen Fisher kept the ball out of danger. Teamwork!! Near the end of the first half, speedy Timmy Foxen had a breakway, took the ball into scoring range and shot - SCORE! 2-0 Warriors at the Half.

In the 2nd half, excellent Warrior defense all around gave the offense the ball and many chances to shoot. This time it was Gerard Smith in goal who was lonely and bored (poor Gerard!), but that was a good thing!

Matt Greiner, Matt Flynn, Jonathan Granville, and Christopher Larkin all had nice shots on goal. John Simmons dribbled the ball down the left side and, near the goal, crossed the ball to Brogan Mahon in the center; Brogan with a huge boot - SCORE! Teamwork!! 3-0, Warriors.

Matthew Flynn and James Walsh congratulate Brogan Mahon on scoring the Warrior's 3rd goal
Matthew Flynn and James Walsh congratulate Brogan Mahon on scoring the Warrior's 3rd goal Brogan broke away and took the ball halfway downfield. He passed to an open and ready Kyle Brattan, who ran it down the rest of the way . . . he shoots - SCORE! Teamwork!! 4-0, Warriors. Time ran out and the Warriors had a shut-out victory!

Thanks, Coach Brian Wipperman and Ass't Coach Ray Larkin for your dedication and hard work! Thanks, too, to Ass't Coach Lauren Bishar, who unfortunately could not be at this game. After a Saturday off for the the religious holiday (Sept. 23), the Warriors take on Hewlett-Lawrence at home on Sept. 30th. GO WARRIORS!!
