As part of the Music in the Cathedral concert series, Latvian organist Aivars Kalejs will perform a recital of organ classics and contemporary Latvian works, including his own compositions, on Friday, September 29 at 8 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.

Mr. Kalejs is Concert Organist at the Riga Dome Cathedral, and one of the most talented and versatile Northern European musicians to emerge internationally. He has performed solo recitals and toured with various groups throughout North American, Europe and Asia. Mr. Kalejs is also highly regarded as an improviser, musicologist, and composer, for which he has won numerous awards.

His notable organ composition Per aspera ad astra is a haunting memorial to the thousands of children deported from Latvia to Siberia by the Soviet Union in 1941 and 1949, and has been commercially recorded, published, and broadcast, to great acclaim.

The Cathedral is located on 50 Cathedral Avenue, Garden City, and is only one block from the Garden City Station of the Long Island Rail Road (Hempstead line).

Tickets for the concert will be available at the door, and are $15 general seating, $5 high school and college students, children under 13 admitted free.
