Liberty Takes Second Place At Tournament
Charlotte Castronovo marking her opponent. On Saturday, September 9th, the Garden City "Liberty" U12 Girls Soccer Team played their first regular season game at St. Paul's field against the Floral Park Cherokees. Contrary to their team name, Liberty, at times, acted more like a dictator, controlling every facet of the contest. The Liberty defense kept the ball out of their zone and when the determined Floral Park club advanced far enough to take a shot, steady Liberty goal tending thwarted their opponent's efforts. Liberty midfielders hustled back and forth, defending when necessary, and then advancing the ball to the offensive end. Liberty forwards found seams in the staunch Cherokee defense that resulted in Liberty goals and a 4-0 final score. Although it was billed as their first game of the season, the Liberty club did compete in the pre-season Ref-Fuel Tournament, capturing 2nd place. Congratulations to all!
Go Liberty!!!
