The Long Island Lightning Selected members of the nationally ranked Long Island Lightning girls basketball team coached by Earl Thomas and assisted by Dennis Nuss have qualified for the 2006 Tournament of Champions of the Nike Swoosh Summer League.

The Long Island Lightning members include three girls from Garden City --

Caitlin McGuinness, Lauren Nuss and Kimberly Ryan. The team, made up of rising 7th graders, includes most of the players who led the Lightning to a 3rd place finish in the AAU nationals in Missouri in July.

The team won the Long Island Regional Championship in early August.
