noon time concert on seventh street

Come join the Recreation Department on Friday, September 8 th and Friday, September 15 th at noon for a lunchtime concert on Seventh Street. On September 8 th Linda Ipanema and the Dixie Cats will entertain us with the beautiful jazz sounds of Dixieland. On September 15 th you will listen to the sounds of the Clusters . The concerts will take place in the plaza in front of Chico's and You-nique Bow-tique. Bring a lunch and enjoy the music.

new senior recreation center is now open

The Recreation Department's new Senior Recreation Center, located in the St. Paul's Cottages off of Rockaway Ave., is now open Mondays through Fridays from 9 to 4 p.m. for use by Garden City's Senior residents. Seniors, aged 60 or older and their guests are invited to come and use our facility. For further information, please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

art classes at Cluett hall

Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning September 8 th. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the 10 week program will be $105.

This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in the many Garden City homes.

fall adult tennis lessons offered

The Recreation Department offers adult tennis lessons in ten week sessions.Our lessons are open to all adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City and are offered at various times during the day and on the weekends.

If you are interested in lessons for the upcoming fall season which begins the week of September 25 th, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall to fill out an interest form no later than September 19 th. Classes will be put together according to ability and day desired on a first come, first serve basis. You will be contacted by our tennis pro, Carrie Strum, to confirm your class.

The cost of this 10 week, one hour program will be $199. Payment must accompany this interest form. Please make checks payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City".

The Recreation Department is also offering an Adult Ultimate Tennis workout. This 1 1/2 hr. workout is for the experienced tennis player who wants to hone their skill. It is held on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m. This program will be offered in 10 week sessions with a start date of September 30. The cost of the session is $200. To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce the start of registration for our indoor tennis program for children which is held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Registration begins immediately by mail only . Walk-ins will be accepted beginning September 13, 2006. Make checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City". Mail the registration slip and registration fee to the Recreation Dept. at 351 Stewart Ave.

The Garden City Recreation Department's Dance Conservatory Program is please to announce the start of registration for its upcoming 2006-2007 season! Director Felicia Lovaglio, along with her instructional staff, Date Deangelo, Kerry-Jeanne Griffin, Jenna Loepki, Mary Searson, and Amanda Simolari, are excited to start off another fantastic year. The Dance Conservatory offers classes to Garden City residents ages 3 1/2 through adult which are non-performance based, as well as giving the students aged 8 and up the opportunity to join the Recreation Department's Dance Company, which has separate rehearsals leading to a spring performance.

adult roller hockey

The Garden City Recreation Department is also proud to offer an Over 35 Adult Roller Hockey Pick Up game Program this fall for residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City Only!! All Games are played on Sunday Evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the Garden City Community Park Roller Hockey Rinks.
