New teachers at Locust School
New teachers at Locust School On Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30, a group of ten new administrators and twenty-six teachers gathered at the administration building for New Teacher Orientation. Dr. Robert Feirsen, Superintendent of Schools, welcomed the new teachers and congratulated them on successfully completing a very rigorous process of selection. "You are the best candidates chosen from a large group of applicants," he said.

Dr. Feirsen described Garden City as a high performing district where kids accomplish great things. He spoke about his frequent visits to the school where he observes the quality of work that students produce. "There is a strong focus on academics in our schools. We also have numerous clubs and activities for students. Many students are involved in community service, which last year included a huge effort in reaching out to the victims of Katrina. This community has high standards. Our parents want their children to be the best and our teachers to be the best," he said. Dr. Feirsen spoke to the teachers about being caring and concerned, and sharing in the joy of watching their students grow. In closing, he told the teachers to "make a difference, be committed and take your job seriously."
