On August 26-27th, the GC Daredevils (U-12) put their training to the test, taking first place in the Ref-Fuel tournament with four wins and a shutout with 13-0 goals. Kelsey Tierney took charge of the defense in goal, taking a break to score a goal too! The defensive line of Niki Berkery, Lauren Coleman, Taylor Pappas, Bitty Furman and Brynne Murphy did an outstanding job keeping the play in the offensive end of the field and are credited with starting most of the plays that landed the goals. Midfielders and "play makers" Lily Schmitt, Liesl Jaye, Courtney Studdert, Jacqueline Jahelka, and Nicole Bommarito controlled the middle of the field and worked seamlessly with forwards Erin Greiner, Carly Knowles, Jane Frumberg, Victoria Piscopo and Krista Dampman, to move the ball up the field and keep pressure on the opposing teams. Excellent teamwork from all players contributed to the 13-0 score, with goals scored by Carly Knowles (4), Erin Greiner (2), Victoria Piscopo (2), Krista Dampman (2), Courtney Studdert (2) and Kelsey Tierney (1). Most impressive was the versatility of the team, with many players doing a great job in two or more positions.
The Daredevils enthusiastically welcomed Nicole Bommarito, Lauren Coleman, and Liesl Jaye to the team this year, and are looking forward to a fun and exciting season. Go Daredevils!
