Board Names Adam Winnick Locust Principal
At the special Board of Education Meeting, August 23rd, the Board announced the appointment of Adam Winnick as Locust School Principal. Matthew Gaven has resigned to become an elementary principal in another school district.
Adam Winnick has a B.A. in communication from SUNY Geneseo, an M.A. in elementary education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Hofstra University. Since 1999, Mr. Winnick has been at the Jericho Public Schools where he held the positions of Director of the Cultural Arts Program and elementary education teacher. He was a Summer Services Coordinator from 2002 through 2005 and interned with the Assistant to the Superintendent and the Robert Seaman Elementary School Principal from 2002 through 2003. Mr. Winnick also taught elementary education at Stratford Road School in Plainview, and at the Manhasset Summer Center-Shelter Rock School. He has permanent New York State certification as a School District Administrator, School Administrator/Supervisor and as an elementary education PreK-6 teacher.
Adam Winnick's experience in the Jericho Public Schools included directing a district-wide after school program, hiring, training and supervising numerous teachers and student aides and preparing and analyzing an assortment of financial reports and schedules. He coordinated the extended year services program for special education students and at-risk students and facilitated all daily operations of the summer services program. Mr. Winnick worked on redesigning the elementary school report card, observed teacher lessons in various grades, and planned and facilitated the teacher aide interview process.
Mr. Winnick's professional affiliations include being a policy board member of the Inter County Teacher Resource and Computer Center, a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and a member of Hofstra University's Phi Delta Kappa.
