Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning September 8 th. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the 10 week program will be $105.

This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in the many Garden City homes.

The Recreation Department offers adult tennis lessons in ten week sessions.Our lessons are open to all adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City and are offered at various times during the day and on the weekends.

If you are interested in lessons for the upcoming fall season which begins the week of September 25 th, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall to fill out an interest form no later than September 19 th. Classes will be put together according to ability and day desired on a first come, first serve basis. You will be contacted by our tennis pro, Carrie Strum, to confirm your class.

The cost of this 10 week, one hour program will be $199. Payment must accompany this interest form. Please make checks payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City".

The Recreation Department is also offering an Adult Ultimate Tennis workout. This 1 1/2 hr. workout is for the experienced tennis player who wants to hone their skill. It is held on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m. This program will be offered in 10 week sessions with a start date of September 30. The cost of the session is $200. The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce the start of registration for our indoor tennis program for children which is held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Registration begins immediately by mail only . Walk-ins will be accepted beginning September 13, 2006. Make checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City". Mail the registration slip and registration fee to the Recreation Dept. at 351 Stewart Ave.

Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.

To register: by mail only, no walk in registrations will be accepted until September 13 th. We can not be held responsible for delays in the mail. To register, pick up an application at the Recreation Office in Village Hall. Applications will also be distributed in our schools during the first week. You can also make your own by listing your child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session and classes for which you are registering. The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to once again offer a Roller Hockey Program this fall for residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City to enjoy. Our fall program includes a League for Ages 7 thru 14, a Learn & Play session for Ages 5 & 6 and an Over 35 Adult Hockey Pick Up Game Program. Applications are available for all three programs at the Recreation office at Village hall and registration is ongoing. Pleasse see information below regarding specifics on each program:

Learn & Play Program - Ages 5 & 6 - 8 week program

Session 1: Sundays from 12 to 1 p.m. OR

Session 2: Sundays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Start date: Sunday September 10 th at the Garden City Community Park Roller Hockey Rinks. Price: $60.00

Roller Hockey League - All Games are played on Fridays according to the following schedule:

Mites Division: (Ages 7 & 8) Games are at 4 p.m. Space is very limited.

Junior Division: (Ages 9 & 10) Games are at 5:45 p.m.

Intermediate Division: (Ages 11-14) Games are at 7:30 p.m.

League Play begins Friday September 8 th, at the Garden City Community Park Roller Hockey Rinks.
