Children's Museum Celebrates Family Ties

Following its annual Fall Spruce-Up, the Children's Museum will re-open on Saturday, September 16 as it celebrates the ties that connect our family members. Interactive programs and performances will focus attention on the generational links that define our families. So call grandma and grandpa, your favorite aunts, uncles and cousins and plan a visit to the Children's Museum to share special family time.

Short Films for Families

Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17 at1:30 p.m.

We have selected a group of whimsical short films which any family member can relate to. Sit back and enjoy: The Day the Dog Dressed Like Dad, Career Day, Toys: The Homemaker's Tale and many more. Be ready to flip your points of view. (50 minutes)

All ages. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 for LICM members); $5 theater only

Family Foliage

Saturday, September 16 and Saturday, September 30 at 1and3 p.m.

Join us as we learn about the time-honored tradition of starting and maintaining family trees. Children will make their own unique torn paper family trees to take home. Make sure to bring a grownup that knows a few generations of your family history!

Age: 5-12. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members).

The Art of Charcoal

Sunday, September 17 at 1 and 3 p.m.

Join us for a new art workshop where we'll learn the classical way of rendering with charcoal and try our hand at drawing objects such as a bowl, a teapot or a piece of fruit. You can bring an apple or your favorite cup as a sample or use ours. Each child will create a charcoal still life to take home.

Age: 6-12. Fee: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members).

All activities will be held at the Long Island Children's Museum,11 Davis Avenue,Garden City,NY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $9 for adults and children over 1 year old, $8 seniors, FREE to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply.
