What's Up For Young
Adults At The Library
Congratulations to all those Young Adults who successfully completed the Summer Reading Club. As of press time there were 57 Young Adults who submitted at least one mini-review. It is not too late. Whether reading to satisfy the requirements for school or for the pure pleasure of it, submit a mini review and be rewarded at the annual "Back-to-School Bash" on August 30th at 7:30 PM. Invitations have been mailed but are not closed. If you did not get one, please call so that can be rectified. Don't miss out on the party of the season and the opportunity to reconnect with your classmates before classes start.
Kudos and thanks to the 32 teens who volunteered for Teens and Tots storytime this summer at the Garden City Pool. These generous young adults came to the pool every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon during July and the first week of August to read to and entertain the younger children of the village. Both the teens and the tots enjoyed the experience. Both the Library staff and the Pool staff are very proud of and grateful to these selfless youngsters. All participants are invited to the Back to School Bash at the Library on August 30th.
Registration for all Young Adult programs can be done in person at the Young Adult desk, by phoning 742-8405 ext. 220, or emailing mkelly@nassaulibrary.org. If signing up electronically please include name, address, phone number and grade in the message.

Lunch Bag Book Talk
Reference librarians Mrs. Flanagan and Mrs. Byrne are pleased to be kicking off the Fall season with another popular Lunch Bag Book Talk on Tuesday, September 12th from 12:00 to 2:00PM . Property by Valerie Martin has been selected. Property is set in the surreal heat of the antebellum South during a slave rebellion. Property takes the form of a dramatic monologue, bringing to the page a voice rarely heard in American fiction: the voice of a woman slave holder. It is riveting fiction, fast, richly plotted, shimmering with visual detail. It is also an invitation to re-examine the traditions of the Southern novel and the myth of the chivalrous South, and a haunting meditation on what Valerie Martin has called "the fantastic and constant perversity of the oppressor to feel victimized by the oppressed." Registration begins Monday August 21st. Registration is limited to Garden City Residents and must done in person. . Remember to bring your lunch and we will supply the drinks and desserts. For further information contact Laura Flanagan at The Garden City Public Library 742-8405.
