Well, I finally did get an answer to where the Well Of The Sea was located. This is it from a long time resident - Barbara A. Wilson. The Well of the Sea Restaurant was located at what is now The Village Cleaners just over the Rail Road tracks on Franklin Avenue. According to Barbara it was not a very large place, but a cozy one. While you were waiting for a table, you could sit at the Bar and watch the trains going into the city or coming back into the Hempstead Station down the line.

The restaurant was owned by the same person who owned "The Flagstone Restaurant" located on Franklin Avenue in Hempstead. This was in the late 1950's and the questions brought back some very fond memories. It also brought back another question; here it is - What year did Roepke's become "The Mona Lisa"? O.K. now let's hear from you on that one.

Folks are either coming back from their summer vacations or leaving for one. Of course, the best thing about going away is that you can come home again and you can't come home again if you haven't gone away. Hey, it's summer - what can you expect.

Irene and John Christie came home again from their month in the lake region of New Hampshire - a place they go to each year. They enjoyed the crystal clear waters, cool nights, and peaceful atmosphere as they do each year, but it's nice to have them back in town.

Betty Bangert and hubby Henry enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Garden City Country Club where they were able to greet many friends. It was so good to see them back again and Henry especially got fond hello's from the staff as well as old friends. Good to see both of you.

Betty was also out at the same Club's Ladies Luncheon/Bridge soon after on Thursday, August 17th. The first Small Slam of the day was made in 6 No Trump by Sally Jones and Kay DiComo. Lady Luck smiled on the team of Rosemary Brown and Nancy

Plant when they brought in the first Grand Slam of the day in 7 No Trump. Marilyn Camp was the delighted winner of the Door Prize. Bridge Chairlady, Muriel Urban announced that the next Ladies/bridge would be held on Thursday, September 7th and the monthly Dinner/Bridge would be held on Wednesday, September 6th. While the early date for the Lunch/Bridge will be hard on the golfers, there was an announcement of the reason for the change that everyone was happy about. More about that on a later date.

In between vacations and the changes in the weather, the Pool is still holding its own as a great place to swim and socialize. Carol Countryman, June Kwee, Mary Ross, and Florence Coffin are hardy regulars. The Water Exercise classes don't diminish and all seems well. Dorothy and Ed Alford have also been spotted- she chatting with friends and Ed getting his laps in. Not much longer to go.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Peter Karejwa and also to Barbara Haynes both of whom celebrate their special days the end of August. May they both have a wonderful day and a great year ahead filled with health and happiness with many more years to come.

Carol and Bob Sexton will be celebrating their 52nd Wedding Anniversary before August comes to an end and we all wish them the best for this is a wonderful milestone. Have a happy, you two.

Miriam and Dick Benack will be celebrating their 49th Wedding Anniversary on August 31st and while next year will bring their "big one" they believe in celebrating whenever they can so they just got home from a visit to Denmark. May you have many more happy years and many more happy trips in which to celebrate in heath and happiness.

It used to be that September was Back To School for the children and a time to ease into Fall for parents. Many took the traditional last two weeks of August ending with the Labor Day Week-end as vacation and this part is still true. However, the easing part and the Fall cleaning have fallen by the wayside as events are already shaping September to be a very busy Social and Fund Raising month. Friday, September 15th will see the "Tastings 2006" by the American Cancer Society and the Miracle Foundation. Mrs. Elizabeth Golden will be taking reservations at 46 First Street, Garden City, N.Y. for the 50/50 Raffle. Tickets for that are $100 dollars and are tax deductible - checks should be made out to American Cancer Society - Garden City Unit and you don't have to be present to win, but it sure is a delicious evening especially if you don't count the calories. Be sure to help them out on this very good cause.

In the meantime - see you at the Pool.
