summer rec nights

The Recreation Department will hold summer Recreation Nights for children entering 8 th to 12 th grades on Tuesday evenings beginning Tuesday, July 11 th. The field house will be open from 7:30 - 10 p.m. to play basketball and volleyball and musical entertainment will be provided. Any child who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to participate. Supervision will be provided by the Recreation Staff. This program will continue through Tuesday, August 15th.

chess club meetings start

Garden City Recreation Department's Chess Club has begun. if you have a child in grades 3 to 8 who enjoys Chess or would like to learn the game, then this is the program for you. Our chess club meets at the Garden City Library's small meeting room on Tuesday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm. this is a free program under the direction of Paul Doohr.

splish splash trip

The Garden City Recreation Department is again sponsoring a trip to Splish Splash Water Park located in Riverhead, on Tuesday, July 25 th, for all Middle and High School aged students who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Buses will depart from the parking lot at St. Paul's School at 9 a.m. and will return there at approximately 5 p.m.

Supervision for this trip will be provided by the Recreation Staff. The children will enjoy several hours of river rapids, slides, and tube rides at this fantastic water park. the cost of this trip will be $22 per person, which will include unlimited rides at Splish splash and transportation.

Payment must be made in cash only . To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall by Friday, July 21 st. For further info, call 465-4075.

adventureland trips

The Recreation Department will be offering several trips to Adventureland in Farmingdale through our neighborhood parks. These trips will be supervised by the Recreation park staff and will take place on the following dates:

Friday July 21Nassau Haven and Hemlock Parks

Friday July 28Tullamore and Edgemere Parks

Friday August 4Grove Park

The trip will leave from the Park at 11 a.m. and will arrive Adventureland around noon. The children will enjoy three hours of unlimited rides and will depart Adventureland at 3 p.m. the bus will return to Tullamore and Edgemere Parks around 4 p.m.

Transportation will be provided by Recreation Department bus and supervision will be provided by Park staff. The cost of this trip is $18 pr child. This trip must be paid in cash only. No checks will be accepted.

fall roller hockey

program announced

The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to once again offer a Roller Hockey Program this fall for residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City to enjoy. Our fall program includes a League for Ages 7 thru 14 a Learn & Play session for Ages 5 & 6. Applications are available for both programs at Village Hall and registration will officially begin on Monday July 17 th, 2006. Please see information below regarding specifics on each program:

Learn & Play Program - Ages 5 & 6 - 8 week program

Session 1: Sundays from 12 to 1 p.m. OR

Session 2: Sundays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Start date: Sunday September 10 th at the Garden City Community Park Roller Hockey Rinks. Price: $60.00

*Please be advised there are only 25 spots available in each session*

Roller Hockey League - All Games are played on Fridays according to the following schedule:

Mites Division: (Ages 7 & 8) Games are at 4 p.m.

Junior Division: (Ages 9 & 10) Games are at 5:45 p.m.

Intermediate Division: (Ages 11-14) Games are at 7:30 p.m.

League Play begins Friday September 8 th, at the Garden City Community Park Roller Hockey Rinks.

Season includes 7 weeks of Regular Season Match-Ups, All Star game, and One round of Playoffs, The G.C. Recreation Championship Game & the End of the Season Awards Celebration. Price $60.00.

adult summer dance schedule

The Recreation Department's Dance Company will offer several adult classes during the summer months. The following classes will be offered:

Adult Stretch and ToneTuesdays at 9:15 a.m.

JazzWednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Adult Stretch and ToneThursday 9:15 a.m.

All classed will run one hour. All sessions will begin the week of July 11 th. Each six week class will cost $48. To register, please visit the Recreation office in Village Hall.

Summer Gazebo Concert Series

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce its summer calendar of concerts at the Gazebo on Seventh Street. This year's performances will include:

So bring a chair and join us at the Gazebo on Seventh Street. concert time is 7:15 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to St. Paul's Cluett Hall on Stewart Avenue.

men's summer basketball

St. Paul's Field House will be open for Men's Basketball on Wednesdays beginning July 5 th from 7 to 10 pm. The format is strictly pickup and is open to any Village resident aged 18 or over. This program will run until August 19th.

adult volleyball begins again

The Recreation Department's adult volleyball program changes venues in the summer and moves to Community Park. If you are a village adult resident who enjoys volleyball, come and join in the fun on Thursday evenings from 7 to 10 pm beginning July 6th.

summer adult yoga classes

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to offer a summer session of its very popular "Yoga over 50" class. This class will be offered twice weekly beginning the week of July 10 according to the following schedule:

Mondays from 10-11 a.m. at the Senior Recreation Center

Wednesdays from 9-10 a.m. at St. Paul's Cluett Hall.

Any Garden City Resident aged 50 or older may register for one or both classes. The session will run for five weeks at a cost of $25 (one class per week). To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

amusement park tickets on sale

The Garden City Recreation Department, in conjunction with the New York State Recreation and Parks Society, is offering discounted tickets to various amusement parks in the tri-state area. These tickets are good for the Summer 2006 season. Here is a list of what is available:

pre-school summer camp

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Pre-School Camp for girls and boys 3.5 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children who attend this camp MUST be 3.5 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and one half hour class. The sessions are as follows:

Session 1:July 10 thru July 14

Session II:July 17 thru July 21

Session III:July 24 thru July 28

Session IV:July 31 thru August 4

Session V: August 7 thru August 11

a copy of the child's birth certificate must accompany the registration. Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.

You can also make your own by listing your child's name, address, phone number, birth date, and the sessions or classes for which your are registering.
