Junior Achievers Visit Primary Schools
Students in Mr. Wiedenhoft's economic classes this year participated in the Junior Achievement (JA) program. The JA program promotes the use of hands-on experiences to help students learn the economics of life. Prior to their visit to kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, students also volunteered their time to a training course which provided them with guidance for their visits.
Kindergarten classes listened to JA volunteers read books entitled "Aggie goes to the Carnival," which highlighted the value of money and "Robbie goes to the Farm," leading to a discussion about the students' favorite animals. The first-graders completed booklets about "Our Families," and learned about needs and wants.
At the end of their visit, JA volunteers promoted the importance of school and the value of having a good education. The JA volunteers visit not only served as an economic lesson but enabled students to meet young role models in their own community.
