Maestro Christopher Lyndon-Gee with the Garden City High school Orchestra in June
Maestro Christopher Lyndon-Gee with the Garden City High school Orchestra in June The Garden City Arts-In-Education is pleased to announce that Maestro Christopher Lyndon-Gee conducted a six-day workshop with the Garden City High school orchestra. Maestro Lyndon-Gee is the chair of the Music Department at Adelphi University. He is also a composer who will be attending the premiere performance of his most recent composition in Florence, Italy.

It was truly an honor to have a musician of his caliber conducting the orchestra. He commanded total respect from the students with his soft spoken, British accent. His charm and humor, combined with his ability to teach technique and bring out the dynamics, had amazing results in such a brief time. He worked with the students on the Prelude from "Psycho" and Ravel's "Enchanting Garden." They are two totally contrasting works - the first required short, tense strokes of the bow, and the second requiring long, flowing phrases.

When confronted with the option to deviate from what is written in the score, he said, "I believe what's written by the composer is sacred unless there is an unavoidable reason to change."

Philosophy, technique and the joy of music were all rolled in one. It was a fabulous and memorable experience for the Garden City High School Orchestra students.
