Adelphi Professor Receives Nursing Award

Associate Professor Dr. Marybeth Ryan
Associate Professor Dr. Marybeth Ryan Adelphi University School of Nursing Associate Professor Dr. Marybeth Ryan M.S.N. '72, A.N.P. '99, is the New York and New Jersey regional winner of the Nursing Spectrum Excellence Award for Teaching. She joins a select group of five other nursing professionals who are in the running for the National Nurse of the Year Award, to be announced in October.

The Nursing Spectrum Excellence Awards program recognizes the extraordinary contributions that nurses make to their patients, each other, and the profession.

Dr. Ryan has been a nurse educator for more than 30 years. She teaches several courses in the Adelphi graduate nursing program, and this fall, she will become the program director of the new master's degree in nursing education program. In addition to her teaching duties, she serves as a clinical nurse specialist in medical-surgical nursing at South Nassau Communities Hospital.

Dr. Ryan has published and presented widely. She has also authored and received a number of grants. In 2004, she won the first annual award for excellence in nursing education from Alpha Omega chapter of Sigma Theta Tau (International Honor Society of Nursing).

She holds an M.S.N. and A.N.P. from Adelphi University, a Ph.D. from Hofstra University, and B.S.N. from Hunter College.
