Friendly's LI Restaurants Once Again Sponsor Event
Place a group of students together with a commitment to helping others and what happens? They can make a difference. The heat did not stop hundreds of Garden City High School students, members of the Garden City Miracle Club and their families from walking to create hope and miracles for those affected by cancer. A very enthusiastic group of walkers, most of whom are members of The Miracle Club, assembled at Garden City High School for the annual Michael J. Tenaglia Miracle Miles Walkathon. The event has become an anticipated event for altruistic students and their families each year. This year, Katie Falk, a Miracle Club member, has set a new individual fundraising record by raising $4,000.
"The students at Garden City High School have a long-standing commitment of giving back to this community. There are so many who have been affected by cancer; the Miracle Club members do something positive and effective to make a difference," said Dave Perrotta, vice principal at Garden City High School. "It is inspiring to see their passion and astounding to see the financial results of their efforts," he continued.
As has been the tradition in previous years and as an added incentive for the walkers, J&B Restaurant Partners, franchisee of all Long Island Friendly's restaurants, sponsored the walk-a-thon by providing free Friendly's ice cream sundaes, plenty of water and power bars to all participants.
