After losing their first two games in the tournament on Saturday, the Garden City Shock pulled together to win both of their games on Sunday finishing in third place in their division at 2-2 overall.
Saturday saw the girls outsized and outmatched by both East Islip and Brentwood. On Sunday, it was a different story. With temperatures reaching well into the 90's, the girls exhausted every bit of energy they had into winning both games by a score of 1-0.
The team showed a tremendous amount of persistence during the games. The offense was powered by Katie O'Neill, Alex Riceman, Anne Blanco, Sabrina Rodgers and Sarah LaRiviere. The midfield provided exceptional support with great play by Caitlin Gallant, Christina Whitney, Ashley Nessler and Erin McGowan. The relentless defense of Katherine McGannon, Sara Ruhl, Gabrielle Nastasi, and Christina Server pulled together to hold off two strong offensive presses on Sunday.
The team was coached by Tom Nastasi, Charlie Riceman and Brad O'Neill.
