Don and Sandy Young and Andrew Karen at Shea Stadium ready to help judge the competition Garden City Resident Cory Fallon was recognized for his baseball ability on Saturday June 17 at Shea Stadium. In Early May Cory competed in the Annual Pepsi Pitch Hit and Run competition at Grove Park. He was the overall Local Winner for 9/10 year olds. He then went on to the Sectional where he won his division and placed in the top 4 out of the 15 sectionals held in New York State. He then went on to Shea Stadium where they held the competition right on the field.

It was quite exciting ! The competition tests the following skills:

Pitching 6 balls into a strike zone, the farthest hit out of three chances to hit off a tee right at Home Plate, and running a predetermined distance. At Shea that distance was from just past Second Base, touching Third and ending at Home Plate. Cory placed over all Second in thousands of children that began the competition at their local parks in May.

Garden City Recreation's own Sandy and Don Young and Andrew Karen were there to help judge the competition and to cheer Cory on.
