Holocaust Speaker Visits High School

To expand on the tenth and eleventh grade curriculum, the Social Studies department hosted speaker Irving Roth, director of the Holocaust Resources Center at Temple Judea of Manhasset.
Mr. Roth spoke to the students on March 17 about his experiences growing up in Czechoslovkia during World War II and the horrors that he endured at Auschwitz and Buchenwald. He told of the heartwarming reunion after the war with his parents, who had remained hidden in Budapest. Mr. Roth gave the students not only a first-hand account of history, but also a lesson on the dangers of intolerance and discrimination in our world
Irving Roth has written and co-written many books, including "Adopt a Survivor - An Antidote to Holocaust Amnesia" (2003) and "Outstanding Citizen Award" from the Anne Frank Center USA for promoting human rights and social justice. This program was recommended by Garden City High School PTA Arts in Education.
